Coping with Symptoms

Healing

Please don't beat up on yourself or feel like you're not good enough. You matter and what happened to you matters.

We know it is difficult, but trust us, you will get better. We did and now we're paying it forward to help you. You have taken the first and the hardest step, and that is acknowledging that you are not okay, the trauma has negatively impacted you, and that you want to recover.

Talking to Your Doctor

If two or more of the symptoms described on the Cast Aways page, are what you've been experiencing for a prolonged period, please consult with a doctor on how she/he can best help you. Be sure to tell them it is connected to the crime.

If you are referred to counseling, ask your doctor about referring you to a counselor with experience treating crime victims and or trauma victims.

If you just say to your doctor that your depressed, the response is often to proscribed antidepressants. This is why is important you tell them about your trauma and triggered responses, if relevant.

Support Groups

If you do not have access to medical treatment, please come to WJFA support group and talk to us. We know how you feel and will give you a voice so you know you matter and what happened to you matters. WJFA's support group.

Until someone has walked the same line, they can't know what you're experiencing. Just know that you are not alone and there are other Cast Aways that understand and are willing to listen

All contacts are strictly confidential. We're not psychologists and we make no promises of curing you. But having some one who understands and share your story can help. There are hundreds of us networking and supporting each other. You don't have to go through this alone.

Recommendations

Dr. Phil - Life StrategiesDr. Phil's Life Strategies Workbook

WJFA recommends Life Strategies because it provides insights to help you focus on solutions. Many crime victims report they had good results.

Dr. Phil writes about what many fraud victims suffer from fighting to right a wrong in civil court. Very insightful from the doc.

Has good sections on dealing with the anger of being victimized. It helps you develop tools to handle your triggers.

Dr. Phil - Life Strategies WorkbookThe companion workbook is the assignments from the main book. It is highly effective as it is an actual tool for change.

It is beneficial to find or create a support group in your area. Start with craigslist.org or local churches in your area. There are non-profits that may be able to direct you.

Having even just one other person to work with while using this book seems to work best. Run an ad in Craigslist or your local paper to start a support group. Don't give up. It may take awhile. People in your shoes take some coaching to move forward because they feel like you do: broken and hopeless.

Dr. Wayne Dyer's

The Power of Intention

The Power of Intention is a powerful DVD, for those seeking a spiritual guidance to healing and peace.

Dr. Dyer provides useful tools that fraud victims, especially ones that have been denied justice, and or, had to be their own attorney in civil court, deal with the crime through forgiveness for yourself, not the crook.

Dyer gives you examples to raise your energy above the negativity. It is useful for fraud victims to stay focused on solutions, fight a good fight, and don't succumb to the fears and anxieties. Dyer shows you how. The DVD is recommended because you can watch and be inspired every time you need a boost.
